Woah. Finnish weather has been braking historic records the last years and the last year has been pushing the tempo even faster. Here are few examples:
- Last summer was longest and hottest in 140 years. It was like living in freaking Spain, +30C for 6 weeks in a row.
- Helsinki area didn’t get snow until January. Normally it starts to arrive as early as September/November.
- Winter was already over some week or 2 ago! Statistics say that winter lasts 120 days in Finland, but this year it was only 40 days! That’s 2/3 drop in one year! Now it’s all sunny and spring like here. Even the damn birds are singing and having sex like crazy. (Winter length is measured as days between certain amount of days that are well over 0 degrees Celsius, i.e. warm days for a week or so.)
-Today we made a new temperature record of PLUS 16.1 degrees Celsius. WTF? Normally we should well well below 0 degrees by now, -10C and I wouldn’t even blink. In fact we should be under half a meter of snow for 1-2 months still. Just today I saw a ladybug walking on sunny asphalt downtown and people are eating fucking ice cream on the streets! This is just unheard of.
I’m really starting to think that this Global Warming thing is going to be very much reality very much faster than anyone of us believed in the first place.
Here the weather is normally so cold that we can afford these 20-degrees-too-hot temperatures for some time, but what’s going to happen to all those warm and previously nice countries? Maybe the biggest noticable change will happen here in the North first? Who knows? What happens next? Maybe we’re all doomed already?
